In Autumn 2 term of 2022, an Eco Council Committee were elected through an application process. The applicants had to explain why they thought they would be a good ‘Eco-Warrior’ and give some ideas about how to help our school and community become more ‘green’.
During our next few meetings, we will be carrying out an environmental review of our school and decide which areas we need to work on. We will then create an action plan to demonstrate how we will develop these areas.
We are hoping that all of our hard work will help us work towards doing our part to protect our planet and achieve the Green Flag Award of the Eco-School Programme.
We will keep you updated on our Eco-Council display board in school and here on our page.
From the Eco-Warriors!
As part of the Eco School Green Flag Award we carried out a school environmental review. From this, we then decided on the areas we were going to work on in school and formulated an action plan. Take a look at how we are going to 'change the school, then change the world!'
Last year, our Eco Committee were successful in achieving the Green Flag Award for our school! We were so proud to see all the children's hard work pay off with some amazing comments about our application. Please read the application review below to hear all the wonderful things they said about our school.
We are very pleased to tell you that you and your Eco-Committee at Manston St James Primary Academy have been successful in meeting the requirements for the Eco-Schools Green Flag Award.
It’s very impressive that you have formed such a large Eco-Committee. It shows that young people in your school are aware of environmental issues and committed to being active and creating positive change. This knowledge and attitude has provided your school with excellent foundations for the many successes that you’ve achieved this year this year. It’s great to see the children taking such an active role in completing the Environmental Review.
We admire their initiative to also hear from those around them to consider their voices and opinions, as well as seeking help where needed. It’s brilliant that they acknowledged where they needed to improve but chose to tackle the topics that sparked their interests the most. We love the variety of activities that you and your Eco-Committee have included in the Action Plan.
This will no doubt support multi-disciplinary skills and shows how integrated environmentalism is in your school. It's lovely to hear from your Year 6 Eco-Committee member regarding your greatest overall success this year. It is evident to see how proud they are feeling of spreading knowledge and awareness to class members. It is also great to hear that you are already making a difference outside the school already by sending different classes to Litter-Pick in local parks – what a fabulous idea to get everyone involved!
It’s clear that you have embedded environmental issues into your curriculum with great enthusiasm and these issues are being used to enrich learning in your school, whilst engaging young people in important issues. The parental quote provided is wonderful, and we hope educators in your school take pride from it – your hard work has allowed students to increase their environmental knowledge as well as their confidence in expressing their views. This is great news!
Time is a common challenge, familiar to all educators. It creates a pressure and takes resilience to keep going. With this context, your achievements are even greater and we feel lucky that you’ve committed to our programme and delivered the achievements that you have. This is a big achievement. We also really love the Eco-Code made by the Eco-Council - 'Change the school, then change the world.’ This is a brilliant concept that allows them to take action within their own environment first. This will no doubt inspire others to join in their efforts towards a more sustainable future.
The Eco-Schools Team have been blown away by your wonderful application it is incredibly inspirational and we are proud to congratulate you on your Eco-Schools Green flag, well done!
