The MSJ curriculum is about developing the knowledge and skills that our children will need to ensure that they are successful life long learners and successful in their own lives now and in the future. We are currently developing our own skills based curriculum which puts our children’s ideas, aspirations and needs at its heart. Our influences: We believe that our curriculum needs to fit the needs of pupils today not the needs of the Industrial Revolution. Our influence here has been Sir Ken Robinson: We believe that all children need a Growth Mindset and a belief that they can improve through effort: We know that good teaching and learning is based on active learning and formative assessment. Shirley Clarke has been our influence here: The national Curriculum 2014 will provide our English and Mathematics Curriculum. Beyond this we have developed our own, cross curricular, child centred, challenge curriculum which is summarised below. It is designed to be rich in speaking, English, Maths and ICT. It is about engaging pupils, developing life skills and ensuring that our children understand their place in the world and their responsibilities as a citizen of not just Leeds or the UK but also globally. Curriculum Help We didn’t do it like that when I was at school! Teaching strategies are constantly changing and we hope that these links below will help you, as parents/carers, to support your children. Teaching and Learning As a staff we have been heavily influenced by the fantastic work of the educationalist Shirley Clarke. Our aim is to create a teaching and learning culture in school based on a growth mindset in which children and adults believe that ability is not fixed and that potential is limitless. Please find our agreed teaching and learning document below. This is the handbook used by all staff is the bedrock of our teaching philosophy. Junior Jam We have developed a good working relationship with Junior Jam. They are an organisation that provides educational activities for children. They have delivered high quality ICT sessions using ipads and have also delivered drumming and singing workshops. Junior Jam staff bring additional expertise to our school providing the children with new experiences and hands on use of equipment and resources that we don’t currently have. Currently Junior Jam are delivering half termly units of work to all children in KS1 and KS2 . For more information please visit Junior Jam’s website.
